The Sky
02:49
|
|||
Finally I awoke, under a blanket of salt
And I crawled up from the beach
I saw the things I’d sang about
And found them out of reach
The sky, the stars,
The times I’d forgotten,
Were looking down on me
But as I dried upon the rocks,
I realized I was free
The pavement is burning my feet
I’ve never felt so alive

The Sea
04:21
|

And to think, all I had to do was die
I touch the ground, I touch my skull
There’s blood pounding against that inner wall
The time has come to move on,
The lining says,
But instead I give an old friend a call
A beast that I’d known from beyond my sleep
Collecting shells from beyond the deep,
He presses them in my palm and says
“There’s no time to write stories of death,
Not about loss, none for regret.”
That’s right, it’s time to find space for this new life
It’s time to break apart everything
No longer burdened,
Free of all attachments
The stars are looking down at me and smiling
Now I have an infinite of adoring fans
Each one as bright as the next
I’ll keep listening to the whispers of demons,
What else is there? What else is left?

The Stars
04:43
|
|||
There is a thing in this void that calls itself a God
Thirsting for destruction, waves of choas erupting,
I shout
"Don't you know who I am?
I carry the sun in the palm of my hand.
I could level New York City with a single word!"
Ignoring my boastful cries, the void spits fire at my heart
Shards of light crack around me, splitting the wires of reality to bits
The atmosphere is torn to shreds, and for a moment I stand in a sea of cracked mirrors
Endless possibilities of endless realities dance around me in tiny shards
When everything is cut off at the source with a blast of rocket lightning
Inside that vastness of outer space,
The emptiness becomes more hollow
Left in blackness and silence I wonder if I'm dead
"Not me, not today, I will not fall!", that hero said
Through seas of crackling lightning bolts
Waves and waves of burning infernos
The crashing force of an earthquake at point blank range
The chaos of that galactic tornado spinning and tossing me about
Finally, exhausted, I cannot even crack his shell
I shout the words of Power that would send him back to hell
Golden bracers shine like stars amidst the blackness of space
Light tears through the creature, cutting through his face
And still he stands, and I defeated eat another earthquake
Through the stratosphere I came crashing back to Earth
A second rate hero is all that I am worth

Chestnut
03:18
|
|||
In full bloom I see her for the first time a maiden
This will unmake me
Tall and proud with chestnut hair
She's refusing to be deciduous
But the leaves turned red already
The shadow coiling beneath,
wrapped around her feet
Our eyes won't meet
Don't cut the branches
I can't let her become a doll
Just another, like all the others
Carved down and remade the same
Blood running down the shoulders
Forgetting -- life is just a game
Let me have this one
In the wild I only want to dance with her around the flame

Mistletoe
06:07
|
|||
Life is neverending
A contract between a whisper and the thunder
Think not of the clever Mistletoe
the briar wrapped around the chestplate
a jealous Goddess
With all hope and dreams,
in the cusp of a sea shell
Take in the widening seascape
of which too much is said
That which drove the passengers here
will not relent
Ponder yet still the waning night
A wanting ear is pressed to the conch
Smelling the salt is not enough
Where is the thunder now?
A passenger is waiting, calling, seeking,
there is no answer
Black eyes, take in the narrowing seascape
Passenger! Passenger!
Ponder yet still the waning night
A curtain refusing to let go,
the gravestone rising from below
Write it down, memory and contract;
This will never end
An answer to pretend
Nonsequential storytelling, pluck it out again
False light reflects from the moon
Forgotten trumpet singing
Keratin creatures, wait on your new prince
Arise! Arise! Arise! Passenger! Arise!
Life returns, the spell is cast;
Hie thee passenger, free at last
A dark voice twisting in the glass
The pain is here, but it will pass
Look at mudded boots, the rain not forgotten
a torrent, a shower, a cleansing,
Pretend you have her favor and protection
Hie thee, passenger! Free at last!

I am in a dark place,
Where all of that rumbling starts to sound the same
Have you ever felt something tight plucking at your wrists?
I’m asking if you know what it’s like
To lose your sense of direction and motion
Have you ever lost track of time?
Sure, I’m a coward
Sometimes I thought I was building walls
But I was just digging a ditch to bury myself in
We never open our eyes, we only cover our ears
I never look at the sky,
Oh but now I understand
Somewhere deep underground there came an epiphany
Then again
I can’t take away the experiences that brought you here
Just lay here and drown, nobody is coming to save you

The World
04:42
|

Youngest of those three,
The night sky is with us, we raise our drinks
Sky, I crash my scotch like rocks,
down among the broken glass we dance upon
with bloody feet, free spirits,
the scars will heal
forget defeat, I'm here,
the hurting isn't real
smile for me, wicked one, smile
tear the world down from its throne
we roll around in the grass like a red carpet
and know everything belongs to us;
everything and nothing
Hush now morning sun that cuts the clouds
Dawn, forget the sins we committed,
celebrate the new day down among the rushes
those laws are only real if we believe in them
Along with the moon you will rise,
baptized in mud I see it smeared across your forehead
Your eyes see nothing
I want to see what you see
Deep and lost within a fever dream
Where are you, Stars?
In the night you are made new, my epiphany
Down among the rushes, birthed in the shit of the river,
The smile that made my soul shudder
You are wicked, unknowing, allknowing,
Benevolence, benevolence,
The world is ours!
That’s something I’ll follow
There’s chaos on my lips as well
What's thicker than water?
What's thicker than blood?
Baptized in mud
I will show you spring's divinity
Bring about new life; bear my littoral crown

Erika The Inconceivable

I'll take misery for a spin
Can we sit in your car for a while
Can I open my eyes and look at the sky
It's on fire
And only I know why
Your compass becomes my prison
Magnetic but alone
I'm never sure I should be forgiven
You don't have to point the way
I already know which way to go
The stars are a curtain,
The sky is closing in on me
I'm boxed between the grass and the horizon
Only my shadow shows my true form now
My love, she knows what lay down these roads
I'm sure she can see inside my reflection now
My love, I'm watching her torn apart
That's what we were missing from the start
I'm remembering the brightness of your eyes
The mirror, the rose, the mask, the hand
You painted the walls, but now I'm washing it away

Fish and Chips

Where did you get all that confidence from?
I'd really like to know,
Where can I buy someone like you for so low?
Watch out, a dog got onto the trax (RELAX)
Crossing the street is a dangerous game!
It's better to stay indoors, y'know?
Cash is playing on the radio
And time seems slow
The tires seem to scream:
"Release, release, release."
I forgot where the breaks were
As I was watching it capsize beneath the hull
Your splintered bones
ribs jutting: into the gravel, out through the dress
Brains accessorized your hair,
Intenstines everywhere,
I turned you inside out and this song goes on for miles
This is not a fashion statement
